Australian Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia): A shrub native to the marshy regions of the continent. Indigenous people, the Aborigines, had been using it for healing purposes long before it became known to Europeans. Modern medicine recognizes numerous mechanisms of action, especially its effectiveness against parasites in Australia. It has been proven to prevent their reproduction and, in higher doses, to immobilize lice. Additionally, it is highly effective against certain bacteria and fungi. These effects are mainly attributed to the components of Australian tea tree oil: Cineol, Alpha, Pinen, and Terpinen.
